SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON ADEQUATE HOUSING TO VISIT KENYA

The Special Rapporteur on adequate housing of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, Miloon Kothari, will visit Kenya from 8 to 22 February at the invitation of the Government.

The Special Rapporteur will examine and report on the status of realization of the right to adequate housing and other related rights in the country, paying particular attention to aspects of gender equality and non-discrimination. The aim is to identify obstacles, practical solutions and best practices in the realization of rights related to his mandate. Mr. Kothari will hold talks with Kenyan authorities as well as with representatives of the United Nations, of other international agencies and of Kenyan civil society.

Mr. Kothari will report on his mission orally to the sixtieth session of the Commission on Human Rights, starting next month, and in a written report to next year’s session.
