NEW SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON SITUATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE FORMER YUGOSLAVIA APPOINTED

The Chairman of the 53rd Session of the Commission on Human Rights, Ambassador Miroslav Somol, today appointed Mr. Jiri Dienstbier, a former foreign minister of Czechoslovakia, as Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the former Yugoslavia.

Mr. Dienstbier succeeds Ms. Elisabeth Rehn of Finland who resigned in January this year to take up an appointment as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
