HR/98/55
30 July 1998

The Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists will commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with an exhibit of works from the collection "Peace Paintings" in the Salle des Pas Perdus of the Palais des Nations. The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, will officially open the exhibit on Tuesday 3 August 1998 at 1 p.m.

The exhibit, which will run from 31 July to 29 August, consists of 51 paintings. Some of the best original paintings on the theme of “Peace Paintings” have been used to illustrate a limited edition boxed book set, copies of which will be distributed at the opening.

The Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists has established a reputation for creativity with both the public and the art world through exhibitions of its members’ paintings and the reproduction of their originals as Christmas cards and a variety of other products. Over 40 years, it has become a respected, pioneering self-help co-operative inspiring disabled people around the world. The organization provides artists with a network of lifetime support as well as an artistic and cultural environment in which individual artists can independently explore and develop their talent. The president of the Association, Marlyse Tovae, will also address the opening of the exhibit.
