INDEPENDENT EXPERT ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN HAITI TO VISIT THE COUNTRY FROM 3 TO 11 APRIL

Louis Joinet, the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti who was appointed by the Secretary-General, will visit that country from 3 to 11 April 2004.
On this visit, which is the Independent Expert’s fourth to Haiti, Mr. Joinet will hold meetings with civil and judicial authorities as well as representatives of political groups and different parts of civil society in order to gather information on the situation of human rights in the context of technical cooperation in that field.
The Secretary-General appointed Mr. Joinet on 25 March 2002 (press release HR/02/31 of 26 March 2002). Mr. Joinet will come to Geneva at the end of his visit to present a report to the Commission on Human Rights on his mission on 19 April.
