HUMAN RIGHTS EXPERT ON THE SALE OF CHILDREN AND CHILD PROSTITUTION TO VISIT ROMANIA FROM 1 TO 10 SEPTEMBER 2004

The Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, Juan Miguel Petit, will visit Romania from 1 to 10 September 2004.
The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to visit Bucharest, Iasi, and Cluj. During his visit, which comes at the invitation of the Government, he intends to meet government authorities, representatives of the judiciary, parliamentarians as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations. On completion of the mission, he will prepare a report to be presented at the 61st session of the Commission on Human Rights in March-April 2005.
Juan Miguel Petit, journalist and social scientist, was appointed Special Rapporteur in July 2001 by the Commission on Human Rights. Since then, he has carried out field visits in South Africa, France, Brazil and Paraguay.
