HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE DECIDES TO RESCHEDULE CONSIDERATION OF CAMBODIA REPORT ON COMPLIANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL COVENANT ON CIVIL AND POLITICAL RIGHTS

07 April 1999

HR/CT/537
7 April 1999
1749th Meeting* (AM)

The Human Rights Committee this morning decided to reschedule to July its consideration of the initial report of Cambodia on compliance with the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights. It took that decision because the head of the Cambodian delegation, Om Yin Tieng, Chairman of Cambodia's National Centre of Human Rights, was in hospital and unable to attend the meeting. Since members of the Committee felt that the
delegation would not be able to provide detailed responses to their list of issues, they opted for a summer review of the report.

The Committee will meet again this afternoon to continue its consideration of a revised draft general comment on article 12 of the International Covenant.
