HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION ELECTS CHAIR, OTHER OFFICERS OF 2005 SESSION

The United Nations Commission on Human Rights met this morning to elect the officers of its upcoming session, choosing Makarim Wibisono of Indonesia as its next Chairperson.
Also elected this morning were Hernán Escudero Martínez (Ecuador), Mohamed Saleck Ould Mohamed Lemine (Mauritania) and Anatolyi Zlenko (Ukraine), who will serve as Vice-Chairpersons of the sixty-first session of the Commission. Deirdre Kent (Canada) was elected Rapporteur. All the officers were elected by acclamation.
The sixty-first session will run from 14 March to 22 April in Geneva. Mike Smith of Australia served as Chairperson of the sixtieth session.
