United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour begins today a three-day visit to Bolivia during which she is expected to conclude an agreement to establish a presence for her office in the Andean country. Ms. Arbour arrives in Bolivia from Panama, where yesterday she signed an agreement with that country’s Government to establish a Central America Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
In the Bolivian capital La Paz, the High Commissioner will meet with Government representatives, the country’s human rights Ombudsman and with members of Bolivian civil society. She will also visit an Aymara indigenous community outside of La Paz.
The High Commissioner will end her visit to Bolivia on 16 February.
