United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour strongly condemned the bombing yesterday in Baghlan, northern Afghanistan, that left at least 41 people dead, including numerous children and six members of Parliament.

"There are no terms strong enough to express the revulsion felt at such an attack”, the High Commissioner said. “Attacks of this kind on civilians flout the most fundamental principles of humanity and human rights. I trust the Afghan authorities will do everything in their power to bring those responsible to justice in line with accepted standards of due process”.

The High Commissioner expressed her condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Afghanistan.
