HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ANNOUNCES NAMES OF MEMBERS OF MISSION TO THE OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES

The Commission on Human Rights on Friday, 5 April 2002, requested High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson to head a visiting mission that would travel immediately to the occupied Palestinian territories and return expeditiously to submit its findings and recommendations to the current session of the Commission on Human Rights.
The High Commissioner announced today that she had written to the Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights informing him that the following persons have agreed to join the mission: Mr. Felipe Gonzalez and Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa. Mr. Gonzalez is a former Prime Minister of Spain, and Mr. Ramaphosa is a former Secretary-General of the African National Congress. Both persons are recognized for their national and international public services, including in the human rights field.
The members of the visiting mission will be holding consultations among themselves and with others, including with the Israeli authorities, with a view to departing to the area immediately.
