Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kyung-wha Kang will visit Bali, Indonesia, from 9 to 11 August to attend the ninth International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific.
Kang will send a clear message that the protection of human rights is indispensable in addressing the epidemic.
“HIV is not just a virus,” she said. “It’s also about people who endure discrimination and a wide array of human rights violations”.
Kang will be a panelist at a number of events including a symposium titled “Translating political commitment into action”. She will also meet with a number of civil society organizations.
The Congress, hosted for the first time in Indonesia, will be held from 9 to 13 August. It aims to provide a forum for meaningful dialogue and encourage individual and collective action in addressing HIV and AIDS in Asia and the Pacific.
It will bring together a broad number of stakeholders from the region to share knowledge and expertise.
