The International Commission of Inquiry for Togo today finished its first session, held at the Palais des Nations at Geneva, during which it discussed and adopted its rules of procedure, working methods and programme of work.

The Commission met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, and received delegations sent by the Government of Togo and Amnesty International.

The International Commission of Inquiry for Togo, which was established on 7 June 2000, is to look into allegations that hundreds of people were victims of extrajudicial executions during 1998 in Togo. The Commission is composed of Mahamat Hassan Abakar, Chairman, Issaka Souna and Paulo Sergio Pinheiro. The Commission will begin its field work on 11 September 2000.
