Elects New Bureau and Adopts Agenda



The Committee on the Rights of the Child this morning started its spring session at the Palais Wilson in Geneva by electing a new Bureau, adopting its agenda and approving its programme of work.

The Committee elected Jacob Egbert Doek as Chairperson of the Committee. Also elected as Vice-Chairpersons were Amina Hamza El Guindi; Awa N'Deye Ouedraogo; and Marilia Sardenberg. Judith Karp was elected Rapporteur. The Bureau was elected by acclamation.

Five newly elected or reelected members of the Committee also made a solemn declaration saying that they would perform their duties and exercise their powers as members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child honourably, faithfully and conscientiously.

A representative of the Secretariat announced that the Committee had so far received 162 initial reports, 47 periodic reports and had considered 150 reports.

When the Committee reconvenes at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 22 May, it will take the second periodic report of Denmark.
