The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination this afternoon held a short public meeting to continue its discussion on a draft general recommendation on the prevention of racial discrimination in the administration and functioning of the system of justice in States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Committee Expert Régis de Gouttes presented to the Committee a new version of the draft which incorporated the changes suggested by Committee Experts when they discussed the original draft last week (see press release HR/CERD/05/9 of Monday, 28 February).
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Mario Jorge Yutzis, drew the attention of the Committee to a letter which had been received from the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights in which it strongly denied accusations made by the Minister of Labour of Bahrain at the Committee last week alleging that members of the non-governmental organization had made death threats against the Prime Minister of Bahrain.
When the Committee meets at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 8 March, it will hold a general discussion on multiculturalism.
