The following statement was issued today by the acting United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Bertrand Ramcharan:
The acting High Commissioner for Human Rights condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist bombings today in Iraq and Saudi Arabia. He extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of these heinous acts.
The acting High Commissioner considers that terrorism constitutes an assault on values the international community holds dear. An essential element in fighting this scourge is to uphold the rule of law and fundamental standards of human rights, the very things terrorists seek to destroy.
