CONDEMNS BOMB EXPLOSION IN JAKARTA

Bertrand Ramcharan, the Acting High Commissioner for Human Rights, today echoed Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s expression of horror at the bomb explosion at the Marriot Hotel in Jakarta which killed over a dozen people. He joined the Secretary-General in condemning in the strongest possible terms this act of terrorism. He also joined the Secretary-General in extending heartfelt condolences to the Government of Indonesia and the families of the victims of this despicable act.
He appealed once again for a rallying of public sentiment against terrorism and for justice to be meted out to terrorists in accordance with international human rights law.
