Following reports in early March of an attack against a member of the LGBTI community in Montenegro, we now understand that new information has come to light indicating that the injuries were most likely not caused by another person.
We welcome the prompt investigation into this incident. We call for understanding and continued support for the person concerned that fully respects and protects his rights.
We commend Montenegro on the progress that has been made to protect the rights of LGBTI persons in Montenegro, and urge continued action to address the discrimination, hate speech and crime against this community that persists.
