Ms. Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond, UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism

Ms. Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond (Zambia) started her mandate as Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with Albinism in August 2021.

Ms. Miti-Drummond has worked in the area of human rights for almost 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), an LLM in international law, and a Master of Science (MSc) in development management. Until the end of January 2020, Muluka worked as the Deputy Director and Senior Programme Lawyer for International Advocacy at the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI). She has previously worked as the Regional Advocacy Director at the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC); the Researcher for Portuguese and Spanish-Speaking African Countries at Amnesty International; a consultant for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM); and as a legal expert at the Universidade Catolica de Mocambique. 

Most recently, she has worked as a senior international human rights consultant, including on legal matters for the outgoing Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism, Ms. Ikponwosa Ero. Ms. Miti-Drummond has written reports and studies on the protection of human rights of persons with albinism, including a manual for national human rights institutions working on the rights of persons with albinism on behalf of Amnesty International and a report on international and regional standards for the protection and promotion of human rights of persons with albinism on behalf of the International Bar Association. 

She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Venda, South Africa, a Master’s degree in international law from the University of Pretoria, and a Master’s degree in international development from the Open University, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In addition to English, she speaks Portuguese and some Spanish.
