UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to review Mexico, San Marino, Albania, Qatar and Moldova

GENEVA (5 April 2024) - The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) will hold its upcoming session from 8 to 26 April, during which it will review Mexico, San Marino, Albania, Qatar and the Republic of Moldova.

The five countries are among the 182 States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. They are required to undergo regular reviews by the Committee of 18 independent international experts on how they are implementing the Convention.

The Committee, which has received respective State Party reports and other submissions from non-governmental organisations and national human rights institutions, will discuss and address a range of issues with the five State delegations through public dialogues on the following dates at Geneva time:

Mexico

9 April 10:00 - 13:00

9 April 16:00 - 18:00

San Marino*

11 April 15:00 - 17:00

12 April 10:00 - 12:00

Albania

16 April 15:00 - 18:00

17 April 10:00 - 13:00

Qatar

17 April 15:00 - 18:00

18 April 10:00 - 13:00

Moldova*

18 April 15:00 - 17:00

19 April 10:00 - 12:00

The above reviews will be held in the Ground Floor Conference Room of Palais Wilson in Geneva. All public meetings are open to accredited journalists and livecast on UN Web TV. * Dialogues with San Marino and Moldova will be conducted in a hybrid format with State party delegations participating by remote.

Background
The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination monitors States parties’ adherence to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which, to date has 182 States parties. The Committee is made up of 18 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties.
