Türk conducts official visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo

GENEVA (15 April 2024) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk is today beginning an official visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), at the invitation of the Government.

During his mission, the High Commissioner is due to meet President Félix Tshisekedi and senior members of the Government. Also in Kinshasa, he will meet civil society representatives, the National Human Rights Commission, members of political parties and the diplomatic community. He will hold talks with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Bintou Keita, other senior MONUSCO officials and the UN country team.

Türk will also travel to eastern DRC, where he will visit camps for internally displaced people, and have a series of meetings with human rights defenders and civil society organisations.  

The High Commissioner will hold a news conference at the end of his mission on Thursday 18 April. Details concerning time and location will be issued locally.
