Currently the Nanai people inhabit mainly the Khabarovsk Territory. Some groups of people live in Primorye and Sakhalin. The Sakhalin Nanai people are back-settlers from Amur. By the beginning of 2012 there were 203 back-settlers. Some Nanai people (Hezhe) inhabit a part of northeast China.

BACKGROUND

The Nanai language belongs to the group of the Manchu-Tungus languages. The script on the basis of the Cyrillic is used in Russia.
