Grants for civil society and NGOs

The 2022 call for project proposals is closed.

In the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent (A/RES/69/16), OHCHR supports projects of civil society and non-government organizations that aim at promoting and protecting the human rights of people of African descent through the IDPAD grant scheme.

Eligibility criteria

The IDPAD grant scheme provides financial support to projects that aim at promoting and protecting the human rights of people of African descent worldwide.

The IDPAD grant scheme is for a maximum duration of 12 months and the amount requested from OHCHR for the implementation of the project cannot exceed 15,000 USD.

Projects can include the following activities, amongst others:

• seminars, workshops, trainings;
• capacity building activities;
• institutional strengthening activities and
• advocacy

The following activities will not be covered:

• individual sponsorships for participation in workshops, seminars, conferences, congresses;
• one-off conferences;
• capital expenditure, e.g. land, buildings, equipment and vehicles
• individual scholarships for studies or training courses;
• supporting political parties;
• sub-contracting

Each organization can submit only one application under each call for proposals. We give priority to applications submitted by small and grassroot organisations.

How to apply?

The 2022 call for application is now closed. Given the large number of applications received, only short-listed applicants will be notified by email.

Applications can be submitted in English or French. The templates below are available in both languages.

Applicants are requested to send the following documents in one single email to claudie.fioroni@un.org and khrystyna.kostenetska@un.org:

• The project proposal, using the following application form. Please note that the project proposal should not exceed 10 pages.
• Budget, using the following budget template. Please note that the maximum amount for the IDPAD Grant is 15,000 USD.
• Copy of NGO’s registration certificate
• CVs of staff (if applicable)

Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.

Modalities

Please note that, as per usual practice, grantees will receive 80% of the requested amount at the beginning of the project implementation and the remaining 20% after the end of the project — once the financial documents have been checked and verified by the auditors and submitted to OHCHR.

Refund of grants: OHCHR may request organizations to refund, either in part or in whole any amounts paid in respect of a grant when:

• the project was not implemented in full or in part;
• the grant was spent for ineligible expenditures other than those mentioned in the budget proposal submitted to, and approved by OHCHR;
• no narrative, financial or audit report was submitted within the deadline established by the grant agreement;
• a narrative report and/or a financial report submitted was determined to be unsatisfactory;
• a negative evaluation of the project by OHCHR;
• any other valid reason provided by the OHCHR.
