Parliaments as promoters of human rights, democracy and the rule of law
The second session of the Forum was held on 22 and 23 November 2018, in Room XVII at Palais des Nations in Geneva. In accordance with resolution 34/41 adopted on 6 April 2017, the theme of the second session of the Forum was ‘Parliaments as promoters of human rights, democracy and the rule of law’.
Mr. Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, was appointed Chairperson of the second session of the Forum.

Participation in the 2018 Forum
Human Rights Council resolutions 28/14 and 34/41 decided that the Forum would be “open to the participation of States, United Nations mechanisms, bodies and specialized agencies, funds and programmes, intergovernmental organizations, regional organizations and mechanisms in the field of human rights, national human rights institutions and other relevant national bodies, academics and experts and non-governmental organizations…”
States are kindly informed that, in accordance with resolutions 28/14 and 34/41, which request an open and transparent accreditation procedure and timely information on participation of and consultations with the States concerned, the list of organizations approved for accreditation to the second session of the Forum on Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law will be posted and updated regularly on the Human Rights Council Extranet.
