In 2020, under the leadership of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Hernán Santa Cruz Dialogue Series was launched to generate a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences and practices on economic, social, cultural and environmental rights, the right to development, the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

In the context of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspired by the vision and mission of Hernán Santa Cruz, a Chilean lawyer who contributed significantly to the inclusion of economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) in the Universal Declaration, it is proposed to develop the eighth Hernán Santa Cruz Dialogue in his country of origin, Chile.

The Dialogue in Chile is co-organized by the United Nations System in Chile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Undersecretary for Human Rights at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in Chile, with the technical leadership of UN Human Rights.

The central theme of the dialogue is the regulation of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights in national regulatory frameworks and fiscal policy with a rights-based approach.
