Summary

In the present report, the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, Cecilia Jimenez-Damary, provides reflections on her mandate at the end of her six-year tenure. In the thematic section of the report, the Special Rapporteur examines the issue of development-induced displacement. She outlines the human rights challenges faced by persons displaced by development projects and identifies systemic challenges in the development space that may lead to arbitrary displacement and infringement of the human rights of those displaced. The Special Rapporteur makes recommendations to States, development actors, the international community, civil society and national human rights institutions.
