Summary

The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 74/137, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to submit at its seventy-fifth session a report on the implementation of the resolution. In the report, the SecretaryGeneral outlines examples of measures undertaken by Member States, the Durban follow-up mechanisms and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to counter racial discrimination. He concludes that stronger political will and more resolute action are needed to effectively tackle entrenched structural and systemic racism and racial discrimination. He recommends, inter alia, focusing on the root causes behind the current impact of racial disparities on groups and communities facing racism and racial discrimination.
