Summary

The Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy, Ana Brian Nougrères, carried out a visit to Lithuania from 12 to 16 December 2022. The recent historical context provides an important backdrop to understanding the significant transformation of Lithuania into a society that has a robust legal framework for the protection of personal data, safeguards and oversight regarding surveillance and an overall strong commitment to the concept of the right to privacy. In relation to the privacy of vulnerable groups, additional steps can be taken to strengthen efforts to promote sensitivity and respect for personal dignity, ensure the right to privacy, online and offline, and combat intolerance, stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, as reflected in the recommendations of the Special Rapporteur.
