Summary

The Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities, Catalina Devandas-Aguilar, conducted a visit to Canada from 2 to 12 April 2019. In her report on the visit, the Special Rapporteur explores issues related to the rights of persons with disabilities in the light of international human rights norms and standards. On the basis of the information gathered prior to, during and after the visit, she highlights the progress made by the federal, provincial and territorial governments in the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She also emphasizes gaps and areas for improvement and makes recommendations with a view to helping Canada to strengthen its efforts to ensure systemic change and provide inclusive responses and solutions for all persons with disabilities on an equal basis with others.
