Zeid publishes human rights recommendations on Mexico

Mexico recommendations

NEW YORK/GENEVA (20 October 2016) – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, has published a number of recommendations on Mexico, after formally receiving the Mexican State’s written response to them at a meeting in New York on Thursday. Zeid had announced he would draw up a set of recommendations during his official visit to Mexico in October 2015.

Participating in the meeting were Mexico's Ambassador Miguel Ruiz Cabañas Izquierdo, Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Roberto Campa Cifrián, Under Secretary for Human Rights of the Ministry of Interior; Eber Betanzos Torres, Chief Prosecutor of the human rights section of the Office of the Attorney General; and Jan Jarab, the UN Human Rights Office’s Representative in Mexico.

The UN Human Rights Office welcomes the ongoing and constructive dialogue with the Mexican Government and is ready to continue working with the Mexican authorities to strengthen the implementation of actions and policies aimed at ensuring full respect for human rights in Mexico, as well as cooperating with the Mexican State in the international human rights arena.
