GENEVA (28 April 2014) - The United Nations Committee Against Torture is due to review the Holy See for the first time on 5 and 6 May in sessions that will be webcast live.
 
The Holy See is one of the 155 States parties to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and is required to undergo regular examinations of its record before the Committee of 10 independent experts.
 
The Committee will engage in a dialogue with the delegation from the Holy See and also hear from non-governmental organizations. The public sessions will take place from 10:00 on 5 May and from 15:00 on 6 May and can be viewed here: http://www.treatybodywebcast.org/.

A press conference is tentatively scheduled for Friday 23 May at 14:00 at Palais des Nations when the Committee will discuss its concluding observations on the Holy See and the other States being reviewed – Uruguay, Thailand, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Montenegro, Cyprus, and Lithuania.
