The terms of service of half of the current members of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights expired on 31 December 2010. An election for those seats took place at the end of April 2010 in New York.

ECOSOC Decision 2010/201 B: Elections, nominations and appointments to subsidiary and related bodies of the Economic and Social Council
At its 8th and 9th plenary meetings, on 28 April 2010, the Economic and Social Council took the following action with regard to vacancies in its subsidiary and related bodies:
Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
The Council elected the following nine experts for a four-year term beginning on 1 January 2011:
Aslan Abashidze (Russian Federation),
Clément Atangana (Cameroon),
Chandrashekhar Dasgupta (India),
Azzouz Kerdoun (Algeria),
Jaime Marchán Romero (Ecuador),
Renato ZERBINI RIBEIRO LEÁO(Brazil),
Eibe Riedel (Germany),
Heisoo Shin (Republic of Korea)
Álvaro Tirado Mejía (Colombia).
Other decisions adopted at the meeting:
The Council also decided that, on an exceptional basis, the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States would be allocated the third rotating seat on the Committee for the four-year term beginning on 1 January 2011 and that the Group of Western European and other States would be allocated the same seat for the four year term beginning on 1 January 2015, and that such arrangement would not be affected by the number of ratifications to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights received by any regional group during that eight-year period.
