Overview

Senegal is covered by the OHCHR West Africa Regional Office (WARO). The Office supports the promotion and protection of human rights through advocacy, advisory services and technical cooperation to national authorities, national human rights institutions, civil society, and international and regional organizations. It also monitors human rights developments and supports various stakeholders to strengthen human rights protection systems and mainstream human rights in programmes.

Child trafficking in West Africa: A chance to return home

Senegal election is a boost for coup-prone region

Despite a climate of unprecedented political tensions and violence, Senegal held a peaceful presidential election on March 24. Millions showed up at the polls, including older persons, women and young people, as civil society led the way in upholding civil and political rights and ensuring a free and fair vote.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States. The UPR is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations.
