Human rights and international solidarity

In its resolution 9/2 of 24 September 2008, resolution 12/9 of 1 October 2009 and resolution 15/13 of 30 September 2010, the Council requested the Advisory Committee to prepare inputs to contribute to the elaboration by the independent expert on human rights and international solidarity of a draft declaration on the rights of peoples and individuals to international solidarity, and to the further development of guidelines, standards, norms and principles with a view to promoting and protecting this right.

At its fifth session, the Advisory Committee set up a drafting group with Mr. Chen shiqiu (Chairperson/Rapporteur), Mr.Chung Chinsung, Mr. Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, Mr. Latif Huseynov and Ms. Halima Embarek Warzazi.

At its 18th session A/HRC/RES/18/5, the Human Rights Council took note of the steps taken by the drafting group established by the Advisory Committee and reiterated its requests to the Advisory Committee to fulfil its mandate in close cooperation with the independent expert on the subject matter.

At its ninth session, the Advisory Committee endorsed the draft final paper on human rights and solidarity A/HRC/AC/9/4, as revised in light of comments made in the discussions. The Committee agreed to submit the final paper to the Human Rights Council for consideration at its twenty-first session.

At its 21st session, the Council took note of the final paper submitted by the Committee A/HRC/21/66 as an input to the process of elaboration of a draft declaration on the issue.

At its 23rd session, the Independent Expert on human rights and international solidarity, Virginia Dandan, submitted a report A/HRC/23/45 providing a summary of her from September 2012 to February 2013 and an update on her plan of work for future activities.
