The Human Rights Committee this afternoon adopted its annual report. The document summarizes work accomplished during the panel’s three most recent sessions.
Before adopting the report as a whole, the Committee discussed its manner of dealing with communications, noting that the number of complaints by individuals claiming to be victims of violations of their rights under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights had substantially increased. Members stressed a need for additional financial resources to enable prompt review of these mounting complaints
When the Committee reconvenes at 10 a.m. Friday, 30 July, it is expected to conclude its three-week session.
