Louise Arbour condemns the cowardly attacks in Sharm El-Sheikh, London

26 July 2005

GENEVA, July 26 (KUNA) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour condemned the atrocious criminal cowardly activities targeting indiscriminately civilians in London and Shram El-Sheikh.

She added, in response to a question from Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), there is no cause regardless of its merits that would justify methods of terror or intimidation and the killings of innocent civilians.

Arbour, who was addressing a news conference marking her first year in office, cautioned that in sympathizing with the various authorities that are very pressed to take initiatives to respond to this very unprecedented order of attack on populations that they have a duty to protect, she would urge them to do this within the constraints of the rule of law and human rights requirements.
