BACKGROUND

Pahari people call themselves 'Pihi' and live mainly in the vicinity of the Kathmandu Valley. Of late, they have also moved to other districts. They dominate Badikhel, Tikabhairav, Lele, Godavari and Chapagaoun villages in Lalitpur district. The language of Paharis belongs to Tibeto-Burman language family. Besides Nepal, Pahari language is spoken in various parts of India. It does not have script, passed through oral tradition. The UDHR translation has been recorded in Devnagari script.
