UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit Yemen

GENEVA (26 September 2013) – The UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Flavia Pansieri, will visit Yemen from 29 September to 3 October 2013.
During her visit, Pansieri will meet the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Interior, Justice, Legal Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, as well as the Attorney General and other senior government officials.
The Deputy High Commissioner will also meet the Speaker of the Parliament and the Head of the Shu’ra Council. She will hold meetings with human rights defenders, civil society organizations, members of the international community and UN agencies.
During her visit, the Deputy High Commissioner will also travel to Aden, where she will meet officials and civil society members.
On September 30, Pansieri will chair the inauguration ceremony of OHCHR Yemen Country Office in Sana’a.
