The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People will be marked by a special meeting at the Palais des Nations on Monday, 1 December 1997, at 4 p.m.

Mr. Vladimir Petrovsky, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, will make an introductory speech at the meeting and will read out a statement by Mr. Kofi Annan, the United Nations Secretary-General.

Representatives of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People; the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories; the League of Arab States; the Organization of Islamic Conference; the Non-Aligned Movement; the Organization of African Unity; the International Coordinating Committee for Non-Governmental Organizations on the Question of Palestine; and the Permanent Observer of Palestine are expected to address the meeting.

All Member States, United Nations bodies and specialized agencies, observers and non-governmental organizations are invited to attend the meeting which will be held in Conference Room XX from 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.. The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed annually in accordance with General Assembly resolution 32/40 B adopted in 1977.
