Doru Costea, President of the Human Rights Council, Second Cycle (2007 - 2008)
Doru Costea (Romania) served as the second President of the Human Rights Council from June 2007 to June 2008. He is currently serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the People’s Republic of China, a post he took up on 5 January 2012. Prior to his current assignment, he had served as Secretary of State for Global Affairs with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Romania to the UN Office at Geneva (2003 and 2009).
Among Ambassador Costea's previous postings was Romanian Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt (1997 – 2001) and State of Kuwait and Sultanate of Oman (1991 – 1995); in the Romanian MFA, Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa Department (1990-1991), Head of the Policy Planning Group (1995 – 1997) and Director of the Department of Analysis and Information (2001 – 2003).
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Bucharest, with Arabic and English as majors. He holds a Ph.D. in international relations – political sciences from National School for Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest.
Doru Costea was born in 1953, is married and has one son.
